WGO 50th Anniversary Fund for the Future
The recently established WGO Foundation is proud to announce the creation of the WGO 50th Anniversary Fund for the Future.
The WGO celebrates its 50th Anniversary on the 29th May 2008. The WGO’s Vision is to increase public awareness of digestive health and to contribute to the optimal care of digestive disorders for everyone in the world appropriate to their region and culture.
To meet this Vision the WGO has developed proven global Training and Education programs:
- WGO Training Centers: strategically embedded in national centers of excellence to deliver a range of training and educational opportunities for young and aspiring gastroenterologists from their region, especially those from developing low-resource countries. To date 1100 trainees have reaped the benefits of this program.
- WGO Train-the-Trainers (TTT): an interactive program for those who train the next generation of gastroenterologists using and promoting modern teaching methods in education and training.
- WGO Global Guidelines: a cascade of treatment options uniquely adapted on evidence and resource-based infrastructure thereby making these Guidelines (available in 6 global languages) practicable and deliverable anywhere in the world – especially in resource-poor developing countries.
None of these programs would have been possible without the tremendous support that WGO received from the healthcare industry over the years. In order to ensure the future of these WGO programs, which have come to mean so much to patients of gastroenterology throughout the world, the WGO has set a goal to raise donations and/or pledges of US $ 25 million during 2008 leading up to Gastro 2009 in London.
We know that you will want to join us to celebrate our joint successes and to sustain and expand what we already have in place. We appeal to you and your organization to donate and/or pledge generously toward our WGO 50th Anniversary Fund for the Future. Together, we will promote digestive health and ensure the optimal care of those who suffer from gastrointestinal ailments.
